Jordan Pickford stuns with what has been hailed as the save of the season, in stoppage time, as Everton beat Newcastle 3-2.
Pickford pushed Sandro Tonali’s thumping effort onto the bar in the 93rd minute, condemning Newcastle to worst run since 2021.
Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite put the Toffees ahead on 19 minutes, before Jacob Ramsey equalised just after the half hour mark thanks to deflected effort.
Shortly after, Everton went back in front when Beto tapped home following an error by Nick Pope. But a Jacob Murphy volley drew Newcastle level on 82 minutes.
Substitute Thierno Barry responded immediately with a late winner, before Pickford’s flying save.
The result means a third home defeat in a row in the Premier League for Newcastle, while it’s seven wins in a row on the road for Everton.

David Moyes speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It was a really good game, brilliant performances from the players. Coming to St James’ Park is never an easy place to win and they’re a very good team, an improving team as well so for us to get three points is amazing.
“You know what it’s like when they’re shooting down the hill here, you feel you’re going to get pegged back but we were aware and I thought we were really disciplined. We lost to goals to two deflected shots so that was disappointing but overall the players played really well.
On bouncing back after conceding: “It was great, we never gave Newcastle a chance to enjoy their moment. Great credit to our players, their mentality was great, stuck at it and came away from home against a good side and got a result.
On Jordan Pickford’s save: “I was laughing. I was gonna run on the pitch and celebrate a save again. Sandro Tonali couldn’t have hit that any better, it was technically brilliant but the save was out of this world. Jordan played well today, helped us out a lot and his save was top notch.
On form in the league: “I’m hugely pleased with how we’re doing. I want to get away from this thing that we don’t have any home form.”
“A brilliant, brilliant save” 😱

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe, per BBC Sport: “A tough game for us. We worked so hard to get back in the game twice and then inexplicably really conceded straight after scoring twice, so desperately disappointing really.
“I don’t know if you can work out how that’s happened. We were so desperate to get back in the game, did so well to do that but then make a few unfortunate errors, which is where the goals come from.
“It’s not a good look for us. We have to support each other and take accountability, it’s never down to one person.
On the last minute save by Everton: “That’s one of the best saves I’ve seen and in the context and the timing of the game and what it meant, frustrating for us.”
On managing the volume of games: “It’s a challenge to lift ourselves back into the Premier League after European games, a big physical effort and we haven’t done that well enough. It’s not for lack of effort but we have to do better. There’s not a break for us and we have to regroup quickly.”
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite speaking to BBC Final Score: “Massive result on the road. Our away form has been top all season so it’s another great result and a push in the right direction.”
On returning from injury: “It’s been a tough season for me and the only way to get through it is on the rehab and training to get back as soon as possible and as fit as possible. I’ve done that and it has made it easier for when I have been back on the pitch.”
On Everton’s home form: “Our away form has been top class all season and the home form is something that we need to get better at. We need to pick up more points at home and we are working on that as a team. The last showing at home against Man United was a step in the right direction so hopefully we can build on that. It is always difficult when you are so used to something to move away and to come to something new but it is not an excuse. We’ve been there all season and the home form needs to change.”
On his World Cup chances with England: “Definitely. Before the season that was my main goal as an international to get to the World Cup. With the injury, it has been a bit of a setback but I’ve got the remaining games this season to give it my best shot to be in the squad and I think I’ve got to take it game by game and hopefully I can push on until the end of the season and give myself a good chance.”
On talk of European football: “At the start of the season that was the main objective. To push for Europe. The lads have done a brilliant job during the season. We have just got to get as many points as we can and see where that takes us.”
On Jordan Pickford’s save: “Top save. Something we have come to expect from him but it was a brilliant save and he has kept us in the game again.”

Newcastle United goalscorer Jacob Murphy: “It’s a bit of a kick in the teeth. The manner in which we conceded the goals, we got ourselves back in a good situation but they were sloppy goals to concede.
“Just poor defending, they’re sloppy goals from us and we have to fix that quickly because teams aren’t having brilliant chances against us and they’re converting them.
On his goal: “I think once the ball went in the net, it was a sustained spell of pressure for us so it was feeling like a good moment, it looked like we could kick them from there. We went through the storm and we got the goal but it all becomes undone a minute later with a sloppy error.
“It is the manner in which we’re conceding goals, were not giving away an abundance of chances. We’re conceding sloppy goals, we have to get it back to where it was before and that’s something we acknowledge.
On how the team responds: “There’s always a time and place for stern words and now we take a breather, let’s all reflect, look back. First and foremost we know where mistakes happened and we’ve got to go forward and try and iron them out. We can’t get hyper-emotional every time something doesn’t go our way, it will just cause panic and that’s something we try to stay away from.”
