Getafe delivered a stunning upset, defeating Real Madrid 1-0 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. Martín Satriano’s first-half goal and a defiant goalkeeping display from David Soria sealed an unforgettable victory.

Real Madrid entered the match as strong favorites, sitting second in La Liga with 60 points. Visitors Getafe, positioned 14th, faced a daunting challenge at one of Europe’s toughest venues, yet delivered a performance of immense grit.

The match quickly settled into a familiar pattern, with Real Madrid dominating possession. Getafe adopted a robust defensive approach, earning early yellow cards for Kiko Femenia in the 8th minute and Mauro Arambarri in the 35th minute.

Despite Real Madrid’s control, Getafe found a crucial breakthrough. In the 39th minute, Martín Satriano tucked away a precise finish, assisted by Arambarri, to give the visitors a shock lead against the run of play.

Real Madrid pushed for an equalizer before halftime, creating several half-chances. However, Getafe’s resilient backline and compact midfield frustrated their attacking efforts, preserving the narrow advantage.

At halftime, Real Madrid faced a significant challenge. Carlo Ancelotti’s side needed a tactical shift to break down Getafe’s stubborn defense and overcome their inspired goalkeeper.

The second half saw Real Madrid intensify their attacks. Manager Carlo Ancelotti introduced fresh legs in the 55th minute, bringing on T. Pitarch, David Alaba, and Trent Alexander-Arnold to spark an offensive surge.

Getafe’s defense remained resolute, absorbing sustained pressure. Goalkeeper David Soria delivered a commanding performance, making seven crucial saves to deny Real Madrid’s numerous attempts on goal.

As the clock ticked down, frustration mounted among the home side. The closing stages devolved into a tense affair with a flurry of yellow cards for both teams, including one for Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior in the 90+4th minute.

Real Madrid’s Federico Mastantuono received a direct red card in the 90+5th minute for unsportsmanlike conduct. Getafe also finished with ten men as A. Liso collected a second yellow in the 90+7th minute, resulting in a red card. Despite the late drama, Getafe held firm to secure their monumental victory.

The statistics highlighted Real Madrid’s dominance in possession with 77% and 18 total shots, 7 of which were on target. However, Getafe’s efficiency was key, converting one of their two shots on target. Real Madrid’s expected goals (xG) stood at 1.57, while Getafe’s was 0.48, showcasing the visitors’ clinical edge.

This shocking defeat significantly damages Real Madrid’s title aspirations in La Liga, dropping vital points at home. For Getafe, the unexpected three points at the Bernabéu provides a massive boost to their mid-table campaign.
