Auburn basketball is looking to improve its backcourt depth for the 2026-27 season. The Tigers are expected to receive a visit from San Diego State point guard B.J. Davis on April 18, according to Justin Hokanson of Auburn Sports. That is a position of need with backup Kaden Magwood entering the transfer portal this week. Also, they may need a starting point guard if Tahaad Pettiford does not return next season.
Davis is a veteran player who will be entering his fourth year of college basketball next season. He has played all three of his previous seasons with the Aztecs. During his junior season, Davis averaged 10.8 points per game along with 2.2 assists and 1.1 steals. He is a solid shooter from three-point range at 37%. The Aztecs were one of the top teams in the Mountain West this season with a 21-11 record. They finished second in the conference and lost in the conference tournament to Utah State. San Diego State did not play in the postseason beyond that game.

Over his career, Davis has averaged 8.6 points per game, shooting 42%. His average points per game have gone up each season. Davis had his best game this past season against UNLV when he scored 30 points. He was 11 of 17 from the floor and connected on four of eight three-point attempts. He only played 26 minutes in the 89-86 win for San Diego State. That shows he takes advantage of the time he gets on the court. He could be a good backcourt partner with Kevin Overton, who announced he would be returning next season.
