It has become increasingly difficult to narrow the list of New England’s top 10 prep programs as more players transfer from public and private programs.
Five years ago, once we got past the perennial staples at the top of the list — Phillips Andover, Salisbury School, Avon Old Farms, Belmont Hill — we had to stretch ourselves to get the list to 10. There were fewer upsets of top 10 teams and very little movement among the top five.
This year, we’re routinely overhauling the entire top 10 and leaving powerhouse programs laden with D1 prospects off the list. This week’s top 10 excludes an Avon Old Farms team with six D1 commits just on its pitching staff and a Deerfield program that played in three of the last four CNEPSBL championship games. Perennial WNEPBL favorite Salisbury is hanging on by a thread at No. 10 due to a (gasp) three-game losing streak.
Here’s a look at a stacked top 10 of New England prep programs.
