Former Gonzaga guard Dusty Stromer will be transferring to Grand Canyon, the riegning Western Athletic Conference champions. The Antelopes were set to join the West Coast Conference before flipping to the Mountain West Conference starting on July 1, 2026.
Stromer will fit right in with coach Bryce Drew’s offense in Phoenix. The former four-star recruit in the Class of 2024 will be plugged into the starting lineup immediately with four of Grand Canyon’s starters from this past season no longer with the program. This is the first recruit coming out of the transfer portal for Drew this offseason.
As a Zag, the Southern California native went from starting 15 games in his freshman season to having his minutes take a dip to 17.5 per game in his sophomore campaign. Stromer’s career averages with Gonzaga were 4.6 points per game on a shooting clip of 38.5 field goal percentage/35.1 three-point percentage/80.3 free throw percentage.
At 6’6, he also grabbed 2.7 rebounds per game with his rather long arms. A summer of putting on muscle will do wonders in the steps toward making the jump in his collegiate career.
Wing Steele Venters should replace some of those minutes that Stromer as well as guard Khalif Battle are leaving behind in Spokane. With that being said, only if he’s 100 percent healthy by the start of 2025-26.
After sitting out all of the past two seasons with the Zags due to extremely unlucky back-to-back injuries, it would be wonderful to see Venters go back to his sharp-shooting ways that was seen at Eastern Washington in Cheney. He was named the 2023 Big Sky Conference Player of the Year with the Eagles.
