Experienced former EFL keeper Scott Loach comes out of retirement with a surprise move to 10th tier club Wakefield AFC this week.
The 36 year old, who has made over 500 appearances in his career, has made a U-turn on the decision to stop playing, joining the Northern Counties East League Division One outfit.
Loach, who retired from professional football in June 2024 after a 20-year career that included stints with clubs like many Football League clubs, announced his return to the game in early April 2025.
This move came after Wakefield AFC secured his services ahead of the transfer deadline on March 31, 2025, to provide cover following an injury to their regular goalkeeper, Owen Evans.
His new club currently sit 2nd in their division, with 85 points from 39 games played, 4 points behind and have a game in hand over leaders Horbury Town.

βWakefield managed to secure another signing just before the deadline on Monday, with Scott Loach joining the ranks.
βThe former professional goalkeeper will provide much needed cover, following the injury to Owen Evans β who we wish a speedy recovery to.
βLoach brings a wealth of experience to the club following a fantastic career which has seen him represent clubs such as Watford, Ipswich, Hartlepool, Barnet & Chesterfield, as well as having a number of appearances for England Under 21s.
βLoach will go straight into contention for Saturdayβs game at Athersley Rec.
βWelcome to Wakefield, @S1goalkeeping!β
Manager Stephen Bodle @bodle1 tweeted: βSome big games on the horizon and seeing Owen suffering a freak injury on Saturday means we had to act.
βWe lost Owen for the playoff final last season so we wanted to cover all eventualities.
βScott is a great signing at such an important time for the club.β
