Welcome to the Minor League Update. Every day, we tell you the latest about what happened to the prospects you care about, and maybe a few more you should. Here’s who made waves this weekend:
Hitter of the Weekend:
Lazaro Montes, OF, Seattle Mariners (Double-A Arkansas): 5-13, 4 HR, 2 BB.Montes is mashing like one of the biggest bats in all of baseball, anywhere. The titanic Cuban is now sitting at seven homers for the season, slugging and otherwise three-true-outcoming his way through his second season at the level. The 21-year-old continues to hit for minimal average and strike out frequently, but it’s easier to stomach when that sporadic contact is coming at 118 mph.
Pitcher of the Weekend:
Wei-En Lin, LHP, Sacramento Athletics (Double-A Midland): 7 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 6 K, 0 BB.If there’s a challenge too big for Lin, he’s yet to face it. While his one outing with Chinese Taipei went poorly in the World Baseball Classic, the Taiwanese southpaw has been brilliant in minimizing and quelling threats. In 28.0 frames, the 20 year old now has 33 punchouts and has only given up a single big fly.
Friday, May 1st
Walker Jenkins, OF, Twins (Triple-A St. Paul): 3-5, 3 2B.A slow start was in the process of revving up for Jenkins, with strong showings both Friday and Saturday for the Saints. That’s in jeopardy now, however, with Jenkins colliding with the wall on defense Sunday and suffering a shoulder injury.
Kade Anderson, LHP, Mariners (Double-A Arkansas): 4.2 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 8 K, 0 BB.It’s hard to track just what makes Anderson’s fastball work so well, but Texas League hitters are making it difficult to dispute. The LSU standout has a 38-4 K-BB in five starts so far this season.
Zac Veen, OF, Rockies (Triple-A Albuquerque): 3-4, HR, 2 BB.Despite significant efforts to improve his health in the offseason, the results haven’t immediately appeared for Veen. Optioned after a knee injury this spring, he’s still seeking the full complement of power he’s teased at times as a prep and prospect.
Sterlin Thompson, OF, Rockies (Triple-A Albuquerque): 5-5, 2 2B, HR, 2 BB.Bryan Rincon, SS, Phillies (Double-A Reading): 4-6, 2B, HR, SB.Everett Catlett, LHP, Rockies (High-A Spokane): 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 11 K, 1 BB.Henry Bolte, OF, Athletics (Triple-A Las Vegas): 4-5, BB, SB.Robby Snelling, LHP, Marlins (Triple-A Jacksonville): 5.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 9 K, 1 BB.Capri Ortiz, SS, Angels (High-A Tri-City): 3-4, 2B, HR.Adam Kloffenstein, RHP, Yankees (Triple-A Scranton/WB): 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 7 K, 1 BB.Braylon Owens, RHP, Brewers (High-A Wisconsin): 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 11 K, 3 BB, 1 HRA.Ethan Bagwell, RHP, Braves (Low-A Augusta): 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 5 K, 2 BB.Handelfry Encarnacion, OF, Brewers (Low-A Wilson): 1-3, HR, 2 BB, SB, CS.Nathan Flewelling, C, Rays (High-A Bowling Green): 3-5, HR.
Saturday, May 2nd
Murf Gray, 3B, Pirates (Low-A Bradenton): 4-4, 2B, 2 HR, BB.The pitching staff gets more attention for the Marauders, but Gray and the gang lit things up all weekend. The former Fresno State slugger now has five big flies in the first month of the season.
Cristian Jauregui, OF, Pirates (Low-A Bradenton): 5-5, 3B, HR, SB.A double separated the 20 year old from a cycle, as he joined his older teammate in a hit parade that’s been on display all season. Unheralded out of Cuba in the 2023 amateur signing period, Jauregui is scorching the ball in his first affiliated sampling.
Xavier Neyens, 3B, Astros (Low-A Fayetteville): 3-4, 2 HR.Houston’s top selection in the 2025 draft has hefty expectations in a system not flush with high-end talent. The teenager has been patient at the plate, yielding lengthy plate appearances and an elevated walk and strikeout rate, but his power-speed combo stands out.
Jonah Tong, RHP, Mets (Triple-A Syracuse): 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 6 K, 2 BB.Cole Carrigg, SS/OF, Rockies (Triple-A Albuquerque): 4-5, 2B, HR.Jaime Ferrer, OF, Twins (High-A Cedar Rapids): 2-4, 2 HR.Kyle Carr, LHP, Yankees (Double-A Somerset): 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 7 K, 0 BB.Dauri Fernandez, SS, Guardians (Low-A Lynchburg): 3-6, 2B, 2 3B.Liomar Martinez, RHP, Marlins (High-A Beloit): 5.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 7 K, 4 BB.Nestor Lorant, RHP, Reds (High-A Dayton): 5.2 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 7 K, 2 BB.Aeverson Arteaga, 3B, Giants (Double-A Richmond): 3-4, 2B, HR.Dylan Howard, RHP, Astros (High-A Asheville): 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 7 K, 2 BB.Max Banks, RHP, White Sox (Low-A Kannapolis): 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 7 H, 5 K, 0 BB.Joshua Báez, OF, Cardinals (Triple-A Memphis): 3-5, 2B, HR.
Sunday, May 3rd
Qrey Lott, OF, Padres (Low-A Lake Elsinore): 5-5, 2 HR.In 2023, the Orioles selected lott in hopes of signing him out of high school in Georgia. Instead, Lott headed to Northwest Florida State College. A couple starring years on campus, and Lott inked a UDFA deal with San Diego last summer. Cracking official games for the first time in the past two weeks, the speedy, 6’5 Lott looks like he may belong.
Jadher Areinamo, INF, Rays (Double-A Montgomery): 3-4, 2B, 2 HR, 2 BB.A hamstring injury delayed Areinamo’s start to 2026, and he’s been a far cry from the contact-laden utilityman he’s seemed for several years. With hits in just five of his 13 games thus far, it’s fortunate that six of his nine hits have been round-trippers.
Carson Dorsey, LHP, Orioles (High-A Frederick): 6 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 8 K, 0 BB.Known better for his ability to get out of jams than preventing them, Dorsey’s grounder-punchout profile has been absent or overwhelmed by poor command in 2026. This gem is a refreshing step back towards form.
Yeremy Cabrera, OF, Nationals (Low-A Fredericksburg): 3-5, 2B, HR.Raylin Heredia, OF, Phillies (Double-A Reading): 2-4, 2 HR.Spencer Jones, OF, Yankees (Triple-A Scranton/WB): 2-4, 2 HR.Seaver King, SS, Nationals (Double-A Harrisburg): 3-5, 2B, HR, BB, CS.Levi Sterling, RHP, Pirates (Low-A Bradenton): 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 2 BB.Kade Morris, RHP, Athletics (Triple-A Las Vegas): 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 6 K, 1 BB.Jack Bowery, LHP, Mariners (Low-A Inland Empire): 4.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 8 K, 1 BB.Jacob Bresnahan, LHP, Giants (High-A Eugene): 4.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 6 K, 1 BB.Colby Shade, OF, Marlins (High-A Beloit): 3-6, 3 HR.Cam Caminiti, LHP, Braves (High-A Rome): 4 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 5 K, 2 BB.
