Jon Sumrall doesn’t want to hear about “building” the Florida Gators back up. Clearly, this is not something he wants to take time.
Sumrall was hired by Florida after going 43-12 over the past four seasons at Troy and then Tulane, because the Gators believe he can win, and win big.
He took Tulane to the College Football Playoff last season and won the American Conference Championship.
Surely, he can replicate that success at Florida and in the SEC, right?
In reality, that may prove to be easier said than done, but Sumrall is heading into his first season as head coach of the Gators with clear expectations.
He’s not looking to slowly build this thing back up. It’s all about winning in Gainesville, and Sumrall is right on message with that.
“Yeah, I’ve got expectations to win every game we play,” Sumrall said in a recent interview with Action Sports Jax (h/t On3). “That’s my expectation. Like I’m not comfortable with anybody going, ‘Hey, how many games are you comfortable winning this year?’ If anybody tells me, ‘Hey, bowl eligible,’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, we better be or I’ll be on top of the stadium getting ready to do something stupid.’”
