At this point in his PGA Tour comeback, Brooks Koepka is still fighting to gain access to the PGA Tour’s biggest events. But if Thursday’s opening round at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson is a sign of things to come, he won’t be fighting much longer.

The five-time major champion got off to a strong start in Round 1 and never let up. By day’s end, Koepka had recorded six birdies, an eagle and zero bogeys for a 63.

That left him tied for second with Jesper Svensson. Taylor Moore is the only player above Koepka on the leaderboard as we head into Friday’s second round. Moore shot a 62 to lead by one.

Scottie Scheffler fired a five-under 66 to get into contention early as well.
