The Minnesota Wild don’t have any untouchables

Reporter: “I got one for you, Billy. Looking ahead to trade talks this summer, how many players do you have that are untouchable?
Guerin: (after a long 10 second pause) “Nobody in this game is untouchable. Wayne Gretzky got traded. Anybody can get traded.”
NHL Rumors: Will There Be Many Trades This Offseason
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Auston Matthews
NHL Media: Elliotte Friedman, when asked about Auston Matthews and questions surrounding his future with the Toronto Maple Leafs. What is the plan, and how are they going to execute it?
Devante Smith-Pelly: “Elliotte, Auston Matthews and John Chayka are set to meet, you know, pretty recently here. Do you get a sense, is it going to be, you know, Matthews telling Chayka this is what I want? Is it going to be Chayka saying this is what we’re doing? Are you on board? Do you kind of have a sense of what this meeting is going to be about and where it’s going to go?
Friedman: “Yeah, I think Devonte, that one of the reasons it hasn’t happened yet, I think there’s some degree of scheduling. It’s the offseason. You know, Matthews has, I guess, things he needs to do, and the Maple Leafs have things they need to do.
I think the number one thing Devonte is, I think Austin Matthews wants to win in Toronto. I do. I don’t think that’s ever changed. I mean, he signed, from the moment he got here, it’s always been about how long is he going to stay? How long he’s going to stay? He signed contracts that could tie him up to Toronto for up to 12 years. I mean, at the end of the day, (inaudible), speak more than words, and that says something to me.
I think what is important to Matthews is, first of all not only to hear the plan but to be explained to how they can do the plan. Not just what they’re going to do, but how they’re going to accomplish doing it, and what the timeline is going to be.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Their Coaching Search
But I think at the base, Devonte, he wants to be in Toronto, and I would be surprised if he wasn’t in Toronto next year. I would say that. But I think it is incumbent on Chayka and Mats Sundin to explain to Matthews not only what they’re going to do but how they are going to accomplish it.
