After yesterday’s beatdown that added a potential injury to insult, the Dodgers and Brewers got off on much the same foot in the second game. The Brewers raced out to an early lead due to a big first inning against Roki Sasaki that was powered by defensive miscues. However, the Dodgers fought back with a big inning of their own behind a Teoscar Hernandez three-run homer, and they continued to pile on from there in a blowout as the pen continued their scoreless innings streak in an 11-3 victory.
======
Continuing a trend for the Dodgers, Roki Sasaki got off to a rough start in the 1st. A ground-rule double from Jackson Chourio was followed by a bloop double on a split out of the zone from Brice Turang to make it 1-0 Brewers just like that.

Andrew Vaughn then hit a swinging bunt and Roki threw it away to score another run. 2-0.

After a groundout, Roki issued a walk before getting a strikeout to put him on the verge of ending the nightmare. However, Sal Frelick hit a soft fliner to short that Mookie Betts mistimed his jump on for a “single” to score another run before Andy Pages threw out a runner at third for the final out.

In the 2nd he found trouble again as Chourio doubled again with two down, and another walk followed, but Roki got the final out. That would start a string of 10 retired in a row to help him turn in what was actually a great start against a great offense.
The defense cost him an inning and a couple runs, really: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 4 K, 87 Pitches.
On the other end, Robert Gasser worked around a two-out walk in the 1st and then stranded a one-out triple in the 2nd, leaving the Dodgers looking like more of the same would continue. He cruised through a clean 3rd, but the 4th began loudly with a lead-off Freddie Freeman double and an Andy Pages double to cut the deficit to 3-1 Brewers.

After a lineout, Kyle Tucker drew a walk to put a pair on and Teoscar Hernandez jumped on a sweeper to hit a three-run dong (7th) off the fair pole to turn the game around for a 4-3 Dodgers lead.

Despite getting through the 4th, it was amusingly Gasser who exited the game first. After an out to start the 5th, a walk led to his exit as the Dodgers ran up his pitch count. After Grant Anderson got a five outs, DL Hall got a scoreless 7th, but he lost it in the 8th. Back-to-back walks to Freddie Freeman and Andy Pages was capitalized on by Will Smith‘s single to make it 5-3.

After Kyle Tucker barely avoided a double play to corner things, Jake Woodford entered and Teoscar Hernandez then singled himself to make it a three-run lead and corner the runners. Miguel Rojas followed with a safety squeeze and reached when Tucker scored ahead of the toss. 7-3 Dodgers.

That was all they got in the inning despite loading things up again later. No matter, as Woodford continued in the 9th and issued Freeman’s fourth walk to start, then another walk to Smith with one out, and then gave up a bloop single to Teoscar with two outs to plate a pair of runs to tie his career-high with 6 RBI.

Rojas then walked this time, and Santiago Espinal doubled to score another run to make it 10-3 Dodgers. Ohtani followed by rifling a single to right for another run to make it 11-3.

The story continued to be the Dodgers pen, which started in the 6th with Alex Vesia issuing a lead-off walk but then getting the next three, including a pair of strikeouts. Kyle Hurt ran into trouble himself with a lead-off walk, as a sac bunt followed for the top of the order, but he got a strikeout, issued an intentional walk, and got a groundout to keep the pen’s streak going.

In the 8th, Tanner Scott struck out the side and gave up just an infield single in the frame.
Jonathan Hernandez got the 9th and continued the pen’s streak.
