“Tszyu has been losing, but at least he has been active. Spence hasn’t been seen anywhere in boxing, in the ring,” said Fundora to Fighthype.
“I don’t know. I think losing to Crawford like that and then taking the layoff like that and then getting into a car accident, these things are bigger losses than the losses that Tszyu had.”
Fundora believes activity could prove decisive when the two former champions meet in Australia.
“I favor Tszyu in the fight. I wouldn’t be surprised if Spence knocks him out. I mean, Spence is still one of the top dogs. You can never take that away from him, but it’s just too much of a layoff for anybody in anything.
“He just can’t expect to come back into the ring and be that guy that he was before.”
The fight will mark Spence’s first appearance since his ninth-round stoppage loss to Terence Crawford in July 2023. The former unified welterweight champion has not fought in almost three years and will travel to Australia looking to prove he remains a factor at the highest level.
Tszyu enters the bout coming off a difficult run of his own. The former WBO junior middleweight champion has lost three of his last four fights, including two defeats to Fundora, but has remained active while rebuilding his career.
Both fighters have made major changes ahead of the contest. Tszyu recently promoted Australian boxing great Jeff Fenech to head trainer after ending his brief partnership with Pedro Diaz. Spence has also refreshed his corner and is now working with veteran trainer Ronnie Shields.
The Tszyu-Spence fight headlines a July 25 card in Australia and will be broadcast on Amazon Prime Video PPV.
