Alex Pereira Won’t Become The GOAT Even With Win At UFC White House, Says UFC Analyst

While Dana White thinks Alex Pereira could become the greatest of all time with a win at the White House, UFC analyst Laura Sanko isn’t quite as sure.

This weekend, Alex Pereira attempts to make history. At UFC Freedom 250, he will go head to head with Ciryl Gane in the co-main event for the UFC interim heavyweight championship. While it may be an interim belt, a victory would mean that he becomes the first fighter ever to win UFC world titles in three weight classes.

It’s quite the moment for a fighter who was once best known for his incredible run in kickboxing. Alas, Alex Pereira knew he had the potential to do some great things in mixed martial arts, and he has gone above and beyond to make his presence known in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

In a recent interview, Laura Sanko weighed in on Dana White’s suggestion that Alex Pereira could establish himself as the new GOAT with a win over Gane.

Laura Sanko on Alex Pereira’s future

“It’s a little too soon,” Sanko told MMA Junkie of White’s comment. “It’s a little bit too soon for me, personally. If he’s able to do that, the frothiness in me is like, ‘Yes, you’re the greatest of all time.’ But then I sit back and I’m like, ‘I’m sorry, Jon Jones‘ resume is just – it’s not the same. It’s not the same.

“Alex Pereira has been unbelievable, and he’s been one of one. I will tell you this: I don’t know if anyone will ever do that again if he does it. Even if Ilia Topuria, even Islam (Makhachev). I don’t know that anyone will ever do that again, period. Ever. One of one in history, but I don’t know if I’m ready to give him the GOAT.”

‘Poatan’ already has an incredible legacy in mixed martial arts, but if he is able to get over the finish line and earn that third world title, he will certainly have to be in the conversation – if only because of how late he made his way into the sport.

Jon Jones, meanwhile, may be one of the most controversial figures in MMA history, but his body of work is still pretty incredible, although the same can be said for the likes of Georges St-Pierre and Demetrious Johnson.

What do you think?
