Merrimack College head coach Brian Murphy will step down from his D1 post to explore an opportunity outside of baseball, the former coach confirmed Monday morning.
Murphy was recently named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Coach of the Year after leading the Warriors (26-27 overall, 20-10 in MAAC) to the fourth-best record in the conference. Merrimack athletic director Joe Foley praised Murphy for his leadership at the time of the honor.
“I am so proud of Brian and his staff for the incredible job they continue to do leading our baseball program,” athletic director Joe Foley said. “Merrimack College and our student-athletes are fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated skipper, who continues to take this program to new heights.”
Merrimack increased its conference win total by nine games in 2026 — more than any other team in the MAAC. After finishing 11-19 in 2025, Merrimack was picked to finish 12th in the MAAC preseason poll. Murphy also earned a conference coach of the year honor at his previous stop at the D1 level, William & Mary, in 2014.
