The LSU football program is currently gearing up for the upcoming 2026 college football season, which is slated to get underway in September. The Tigers have had a busy offseason thus far, headlined by the hiring of head coach Lane Kiffin, who parted ways with Ole Miss in ugly fashion to become LSU’s new head coach.
Recently, LSU tight end Trey’Dez Green spoke on the team’s mindset as the upcoming season approaches.
“We’re just ready to put a show on for the state of Louisiana,” said Green, per Jacques Doucet of WAFB-TV Sports on X, formerly Twitter.
Green also took what could be interpreted as a shot at former Tigers head coach Brian Kelly.
“He’s exactly what we’ve been missing there,” said Green of Kiffin.
Kelly was fired about midway through the LSU season last year following the team’s home loss to Texas A&M in blowout fashion, and the team didn’t waste much time bringing in Kiffin, hiring him from Ole Miss just before the Rebels’ playoff run was set to begin.
While Kiffin wanted to stay on board and coach his former team through their postseason run, Ole Miss did not agree to that stipulation, and so Kiffin joined LSU and watched as Ole Miss marched to the semifinals of the college football playoff before bowing out to Miami.
Now, Kiffin will hope to lead LSU back into the national title discussion, something they’ve largely been out of since their 2019 triumph with Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, and Ja’Marr Chase leading the charge.
All eyes will be on Oxford when Kiffin and the Tigers come to town for his return game later on in the season.
