The Minnesota Timberwolves were busy on Monday.
Just hours after reportedly sending Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team trade, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that guard Ayo Dosunmu intends to re-sign with Minnesota on a five-year, $112-million deal with a player option in the fifth year.
The Timberwolves moved Randle to create the cap space needed for this deal with Dosunmu.
Dosunmu was acquired by Minnesota from the Chicago Bulls at the trade deadline and became a key part of the Timberwolves’ rotation. He averaged 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and a steal on 52.1 per cent shooting from the field and 41.4 per cent shooting from three in 24 games with the Timberwolves.
The 26-year-old particularly shone in the playoffs, averaging 15.6 points on 50 per cent shooting in 10 post-season games. He also had a 42.5 per cent clip from three with four attempts per game.
Dosunmu will now slot next to Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels as the future of Minnesota.
