The Raptors picked up their team option on Shead for next season worth $2.3 million, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported on Thursday.
Shead, 23, is coming off a solid sophomore season as the Raptors’ backup point guard, averaging 6.6 points, 5.4 assists and 1.7 rebounds per game.
The Houston product will likely reprise his role behind Immanuel Quickley next season while also facing some competition from Raptors second-round pick Jaden Bradley, a point guard out of Arizona.
Meanwhile, Sportsnet’s Michael Grange reported that the Raptors added guard Jalen Celestine, an Ajax, Ont. native, to their Summer League roster.
Celestine joins his hometown team after spending his fifth NCAA season with the Cincinnati Bearcats, averaging 8.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 32 games. The 24-year-old also shot 40.5 per cent from beyond the arc on 5.4 three-point attempts per game.
According to HoopsHype, Celestine worked out with the Raptors leading into the draft, where Toronto took Allen Graves (19th overall) and Bradley (50th).
Burnett averaged 8.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists while shooting 37.5 per cent from beyond the arc as a senior starter through 40 games with the national-champion Wolverines.
Bittle made 25 appearances for the Oregon Ducks and averaged 16.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.8 blocks.
Las Vegas Summer League action is set to begin on July 9. Last season, the Raptors went 4-1 during the off-season tournament but lost to the Sacramento Kings in the semifinals.
