The 2026 British Grand Prix broke Formula 1’s 31-year-old all-time attendance record with a total attendance of 564,000 over four days at Silverstone.

The 2026 British Grand Prix set a new Formula 1 attendance record, with 564,000 fans passing through the circuit gates in total over the four-day event weekend. Silverstone also recorded a new high for race day attendance in the track’s long history on the calendar, with 175,000 lining the circuit to see Charles Leclerc secure his first Grand Prix win in almost two years.

Leclerc was followed home by Ferrari team-mate Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’ George Russell. Russell secured his first podium on home soil, while Hamilton secured a record-extending 16th top three result at the Silverstone circuit.

As well as Formula 1 action, Formula 2, Formula 2 and F1 Academy all raced at Silverstone over the weekend, while the drivers took to the track in LEGO go karts for a highly entertaining Drivers’ Parade. The on-track action was complemented by a selection of off-track entertainment, with the likes of David Guetta, Chase & Status, Richard Ashcroft and James Arthur. It is estimated that a third of the record-breaking crowd camped trackside at Silverstone on race weekend.

History Made at 2026 British Grand Prix

The 2026 British Grand Prix set a new all-time Formula 1 weekend attendance record. The previous record had belonged to the 1995 Australian Grand Prix. The final Adelaide race sat atop the list for 31 years, having welcomed a crowd of 520,000 fans over four days. The Silverstone race broke the record by 44,000.

Capacity at Silverstone was expanded for the 2026 British Grand Prix weekend, not least at the Landostand. Located at Copse corner, the reigning World Champion’s grandstand was expanded in capacity from 11,000 seats to over 16,000 seats per day.

Daily Attendance Figures at the 2026 British Grand Prix

Thursday – 72,000

Friday – 150,000

Saturday – 167,000

Sunday – 175,000

The attendance figure at the 2026 British Grand Prix is unlikely to be beaten for the rest of the season, leaving Silverstone as the best-attended race weekend of the year for the fourth year running.

Weekend at the British Grand Prix has grown by over 200,000 in the past decade. Silverstone’s 2019 race – the last before the pandemic which forced the two races at the track in 2020 to be run behind closed doors – had a weekend attendance of 351,000, which at the time was a new record figure for the event.

Although it is the best attended F1 race weekend in the sport’s history, the single-day attendance record of 250,000, set on Formula 1’s first visit to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 2000 United States Grand Prix, remains unbroken.

2026 F1 Attendance Reaches 3 Million

Including the record-breaking 2026 British Grand Prix attendance figure, total F1 weekend attendance across the first nine races of the year now sits at an estimated 3.1 million. Figures have been reported for seven of this year’s races to date, all of which have been higher than last year’s figures.

The Chinese Grand Prix – with a weekend of 230,000, a 10,000 increase on the 2025 figure – has had the lowest figure of the season to date, while the Australian Grand Prix (484,000) and the Canadian Grand Prix (360,000) rank alongside the British Grand Prix in the top three. Figures for the Miami and Monaco Grands Prix have not yet been announced.

Formula 1 could still be on course to break its annual attendance record. Last year saw a new high of 6.7 million fans in attendance over 24 race weekends. The cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix means that the total number of rounds this year drops to 22. However, with those being two of the races with the lowest attendances of the season, it is possible that gains in crowd numbers elsewhere could still result in a record-breaking year.

2027 British Grand Prix Tickets on Sale in September

QR codes around the circuit at the 2026 British Grand Prix invited fans to sign up for updates on ticket sales for next year’s race. While dates for the race weekend are yet to be announced, hospitality tickets will be available to the general public from Thursday July 9 via the official Silverstone website. Silverstone has confirmed that grandstand and general admission tickets will be on sale in September.
