Duncan Watmore announces his retirement from football aged 32 and takes up new career in business, joining PEAK4.
He becomes the Head of Elite Performance & Business Development, and appeared on Sky Sports News last week to talk about it all.
Watmore started his playing career at Manchester United, and also spent his youth days at Altrincha, before turning out for Alty’s firs team in 2011, had loan spells at Clitheroe and Curzon Ashton, then signed for Premier League side Sunderland in 2013, had a loan spell at Hibernian in 2014, and then joined Middlesbrough, after a three year spell, then signed for Millwall, two years after that, then his final club, Rotherham.
He said in a statement on his retirement: “After a great deal of reflection, I have decided that now is the right time for me to retire from professional football and begin the next chapter of my career.Football has given me more than I could ever have imagined.
“I want to sincerely thank every club I’ve ever played for, my agent, and every manager, coach, physio, doctor, sports scientist, analyst, member of staff, teammate and supporter who has played a part in my journey.
“There have been amazing moments and difficult setbacks, and the injuries I experienced taught me resilience, perspective and discipline. Most importantly, I want to thank my family for their constant support throughout every high and low.
“1 am now genuinely excited to begin a new chapter with PEAK4 as Head of Elite Performance & BusinessDevelopment.
“PEAK4’s mission to bring the principles of elite sport into business, leadership and workforce wellbeing is something I strongly believe in, and I look forward to helping build something meaningful.
“Thank you for all your support.”

But beyond his achievements on the pitch, he has always been driven by a deeper interest in what underpins sustainable high performance, from physical preparation and recovery to resilience, mindset and overall wellbeing.

In addition, Duncan recently joined us on the PEAK4 podcast, sharing his perspective on performance, mindset and life beyond elite sport.
