Another leg injury has ruined former UFC double champion Conor McGregor’s plans.

Earlier tonight in the main event of UFC 329, “The Notorious” was set to secure yet another spectacular performance against Max Holloway in the rematch. However, just as the bout began, McGregor suffered another freak leg injury while landing a jumping roundhouse kick.

The Irishman landed awkwardly on his right knee while throwing the aforementioned strike, after which ref Mike Beltran decided to stop the contest at 1:09 of Round 1, once he saw that McGregor was struggling to stand or even move.

Conor McGregor has suffered a “right-knee internal injury,” as per the UFC 329 broadcast.

The last time, in 2021, against Dustin Poirier, he had snapped the tibia and fibula in his left leg. This time, it is the right knee that appears to be busted up.

After the unfortunate TKO loss, Conor McGregor was seen leaving the arena limping.

While ACL injuries are relatively common among athletes, the recovery timeline depends on the severity of the tear. Minor injuries can heal within a couple of months, while complete ACL damage often requires surgery and can take anywhere from 9 months to over a year.

While “The Notorious” did not take off his gloves or signal his retirement, this latest setback could mark the end of his career.

Max Holloway says Conor McGregor wanted to keep fighting despite the injury

Max Holloway was the first one to notice that Conor McGregor had injured his right knee right after the opening bell. However, despite the injury, as per Holloway, “The Notorious” urged “Blessed” to continue fighting until the ref decided to stop the fight.

After the bout, during an interview with Megan Olivi, Holloway said:

“Right now I am praying for this guy… Conor is crazy. He was like, ‘ fight, fight’ [even when he got injured].”
