Would any remaining UFAs interest the Winnipeg Jets?
Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Free Press: (mailbag) There is still obviously the Connor Hellebuyck situation lingering this offseason, but there are also some remaining free agents that might interest the Winnipeg Jets, depending on asking price and term
Up front, Eeli Tolvanen and Philipp Kurashev could be options. Bringing back Patrik Laine seems unlikely, but some fans may be thinking he could return to form. Bringing in another forward may potentially take the roster spot of a young player/prospect, or mean that an experienced player needs to be moved out. It is a little crowded up front.
A Dylan Larkin return would be complicated
Max Bultman of The Athletic: So with Steve Yzerman no longer the Detroit Red Wings GM, does this change Dylan Larkin‘s trade request? Hard to say since there is no management currently in place. It would be a complicated return if he did change his mind. Many feel that the Wings captain has abandoned his team. Some teammates may understand where he’s coming from, but it may not be an easy return to the locker room.
NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues, and the Columbus Blue Jackets
The Wings haven’t been able to make a big improvement this offseason. They added Viktor Arvidsson and Keegan Kolesar, but lost Patrick Kane and James van Riemsdyk. Will internal improvement be enough for them to compete for a wild-card spot in the improved Atlantic?
Since Larkin is their No. 1 center, any trade will likely be a loss for the organization. They do have some pieces that they’re building around, and a re-tool over the next year or two is possible.
It’s unknown how the new GM will view Larkin’s situation. He may not have a firm stance on the situation, as Yzerman did.
