We look at the favourites to become next Huddersfield manager as Kevin Nagle promises ‘lots of changes’ amid fan unrest.

The Terriers owner Kevin Nagle has expressed his belief that the club are “going to get this right” having endured a disappointing second half of the season.

They have had a tough couple of seasons since he acquired the club, from relegation last season and and now on course to miss out on the League One playoffs.

Meanwhile, interim head coach Jon Worthington has said that “no-one is giving up”, insisting under-fire players do care, they haven’t given up and want to turn it around

Fans vented after a 3-0 defeat at lowly Burton Albion, a performance labelled as ‘unacceptable’ by Worthington.

Huddersfield go into Good Friday sitting 9th with 64 points from 42 games played, 5 points from the playoffs with 4 games to go.

Town Supporters:

Thank you for your patience, truly.

I hope this diary with @CarmichaelDave finds you well.

We will get there.

FAVOURITES TO BECOME NEW HUDDERSFIELD MANAGER:

Per gambling.comRob Edwards – 6/4Wayne Rooney – 9/4Neill Collins – 4/1Luke Williams – 4/1Des Buckingham – 5/1David Wagner – 6/1Leam Richardson – 7/1Steve Evans – 8/1Jon Worthington – 9/1Shaun Maloney – 10/1Steven Gerrard – 12/1

WHAT HAS KEVIN NAGLE SAID:

“We’ve only taken this over 22 months ago. We’ve made a lot of mistakes, we’ve also done some good things as well, probably more off the pitch than on the pitch, but I just want to make sure that people do understand that we’re giving it our all.

“Let me stress, I do not think this is a failure, because we’re going to get this right. People are going to make mistakes, and sometimes candidly, they might make them twice, I’m not hedging my bet on that, but the reality of it is, I really don’t quit on these things.

“I would say this much, our second season is not over yet. Are we going to get in the play-offs? I don’t know, we’re outside the play-off circle. It’s going to take a lot of good luck and winning as well, which we haven’t done lately, I wish I could say we had. I wish we were back on that 16-game unbeaten streak, but you can’t live in the past, you only have to live in the future, and that’s where we are right now.”

On fan unrest, Nagle said: “There are a lot of people that direct message or private message me, and I haven’t gone on it (social media) recently, in the last week, but I’ll talk to a lot of them, and a lot of our supporters aren’t happy with us, and are angry. I want to try and bring them all back if we can.

“Some of them will tell me it’s the worst football that they’ve seen in the last 30 or 40 years. I sometimes find that hard to believe, but the reality of it is, I believe in trying to bring every supporter (along with them). Maybe that’s that American side of me – rather than boycott, let’s support our club.

“We need to make changes on the pitch, we’re going to make changes on the pitch, and I mean it. We’ve got to make changes with management and coaching, we’ll make those changes, but I think they’ve got to have a little faith.

“I was born a poor kid, and somehow managed to get to own the greatest football team in England, and I don’t think that was by happenstance. It was by hard work, a lot of discipline, a lot of failure, a lot of successes that came along as well.

“We’re going to take this to the very end, and what I mean is, at some point we’re going to all stand up as Town supporters, and hold a beer or whatever your favourite beverage is, and say ‘we did it’. We’re just probably not going to do it today.”

WHAT HAS INTERIM BOSS JON WORTHINGTON SAID:

Per Yorkshire Post: “You start by winning on Friday, first and foremost. It’s about points, that’s the most important thing and then secondly, a performance of fight, being on the front foot and trying to show the supporters we all care, which I know they do.

“Ultimately, those are the first things we can do for the next four games.

“The players want the connection with the supporters, absolutely. But the players – and myself included – you have to earn that as well. The most important thing is to get the fans behind us.”

On outside play-off hopes, he added: “I did not really look at the other results for a period after the game to be quite honest as I was just looking at us (after Burton) and the disappointments and things we should have done a lot better.

“On reflection, you look at (other) results after and that’s where we are at. There’s going to be shocks and results people hadn’t expected.

“And that’s why, going into this Easter period and being in the game a long time and seeing it a lot over a period of time, the focus is on us getting back-to-back wins because the picture can then change very very quickly again and that’s what we are aiming to do.

“It’s so important we keep focused and positive and making sure we get the points. No-one is giving up.”

Twitter users reacted amid the favourites to become next Huddersfield manager as Kevin Nagle promises ‘lots of changes’…

@cpdrake: We’ve got an incredible owner…sport is unpredictable but I genuinely believe under KN we’ll be a better club on and off the pitch soon.

@domino123467: I hope deep down I’ve never crossed the line which no supporter shouldn’t do. When the love is so deep within your own family memories it hurts to see so called professional footballers taking the p–s, it needs a real good clear out, we need some real passion back. ATB UTT

@TheTips35454604: My issue with the season tickets is that my ticket, which is in the top tier has gone up the most to £439 why??? I only see the same game, my seat is no better than any other, why are you making me have to give up the seat which is mine.

@HtafcDream: Cost control is a big issue …4 x managers compo, injury prone signings on big wages, limited player trading and no success. That’s the DoF/ CEOSs “report card”. There’s the issue not purely revs/subsidising losses

@deanozoff73: 40 minutes of backslapping, blaming without mentioning names and trying to justify the ST rises. I’ve been saying on X since September we have signed the wrong kind of players, that we needed 6ft plus players for this league as it’s obvious! I’d have saved you a small fortune!

@Roberts4James: Kevin Town fans massively respect you and are grateful for this diary we just think senior people who you have trusted have let you down. You don’t deserve that. I agree we all have to look forward now get it right and the whole place is amazing

@NeilBeaumont19: A very good diary dave many good points answered sensibly by the chairman. After last year finishing top ten is good and looks good for progression spend well in the summer and improve more and i feel we will be in the mix UTT

@Craiggy3: I hope you are here with Town for a VERY long time. You have most of the fans backing!!!! I hope all this crap from some fans doesn’t drive you out

@robwilksHTFC: Im sure Kevs intentions are good and without his cash where would we be? although can’t be much worse in the last 2 years. By his own admission he naive to uk football and let down badly by people employed. followed for 45 yrs won’t be stopping now but it needs to get better

@heffingdream: Kev, thank you for your investment in the club, without you we may not have a club to support but I really hope the ‘unpublicised changes’ is that MC is no longer at the club. This club is going nowhere until he is gone.

@KrissyA_20: Appreciate the honesty as always gents! Whilst the work off the field is to be applauded, I’ve yet to see anything remotely encouraging on the field over these past couple of years. Actions speak louder than words, as I’m sure you can appreciate #htafc

@MarkjMorelli: Obviously not a happy clappy diary, but, nice to know you accept some decisions made have been wrong and hopefully you will make sure the right decisions are made this summer. Some people will agree with you and some not, I’m not sure yet but truly hope you get it right UTT

HAVE YOUR SAY –

Who should Huddersfield appoint next? Can you see them getting in the playoffs? Let us know your thoughts in the comments or tweet us @fan_banter

Can you see Huddersfield finishing the season in the League One playoffs? #htafc #utt
