Kyren Lacy's Agent Calls Out NFL After Wide Receiver's Tragic Death

Athletes Who Unfortunately Passed Away In 2024 (1:45)

The football world was shocked by the sudden death of former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy this week. Lacy was likely to be selected in next week’s NFL Draft, but appeared to take his own life following a police pursuit.

The former LSU Tiger was also involved in a crash in December that claimed the life of a 78-year-old man in Louisiana, and his agent is speaking out after Lacy’s death.

“Kyren was a special talent, but an even better person,” said his agent, Rocky Arceneaux.

“His infectious personality and love of life positively affected everyone.”

Arceneaux added that Lacy’s attorney expected charges related to the December crash to be dropped.

“Kyren was heartbroken by the tragic loss of Mr. Hall,” Arceneaux said, referencing the man that died as a result of the accent.

“He was willing to adhere to any civil matters, regardless of the Grand Jury’s decision. That aside, the system failed us, and we are now mourning the loss of two lives.”

Lacy’s agent then admonished the NFL for revoking the wide receiver’s invitation to the annual scouting combine as he dealt with the legal matter.

“I urge you to re-evaluate your processes and provide athletes with the necessary due process before alienating them from their peers and dreams they’ve worked so hard for,” Arceneaux said.

Finally, Arceneaux expressed sorrow over the circumstances of Lacy’s death.

“It hurts that the pressure, public perception, social media bullying – all without having the facts – were too much to bear,” the agent said.

“We hoped to see you flourish as an elite WR in the NFL, but God needed you on his team more. Your memory will never be forgotten, we will not let your death be in vain and you will not be Mr. Irrelevant.”

Lacy caught 58 passes for 866 yards and nine touchdowns in his final season at LSU, and many mock drafts projected that he would be a second or third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Our condolences continue to go out to those affected by Lacy’s passing, including his family, friends and loved ones.
