While it’s no secret that things in Lawrence, Kansas, haven’t been the same since the Jayhawks’ National Championship win in 2022, the team is experiencing some new lows in 2024-25.
On Monday, the latest edition of the AP Top 25 poll was released, which did not feature Kansas among the nation’s best. This marks the first time that the team has been unranked in 1,477 days.
Not only has Kansas fallen off the mountain top as college basketball’s premier program, but it also fell out of the Top 25 after being picked as the Preseason No. 1 ranked team.
To put it into perspective, the Jayhawks have been ranked in the Top 25 for the past four years under Bill Self, dating back to February 7th, 2021. Previously, the Jayhawks had been ranked for more than 10 years, dating back to December 1st, 2008.
This season, the Jayhawks have been bad. Despite adding players like AJ Storr, Rylan Griffin, and Zeke Mayo through the transfer portal, each of which earned Top 40 honors as some of the best overall players in the portal, the group has struggled to mesh, which has resulted in nine total losses, seven of which came in conference play.
After beating Oklahoma State in blowout fashion on Saturday afternoon, the Jayhawks return to the court on Monday, February 24th, at 10:00 p.m. central, on the road against the Colorado Buffaloes.
