Prior to the start of each season, the Draysbay community takes part in an excercise in which the top prospects in the Tampa Bay Rays system are ranked by popular vote.
This season, the Draysbay community ranked the top 25 prospects in the Rays system with several others receiving votes but just falling shy of making the cut.
With the 2025 season officially over, we can now look back and see how each prospect performed and whether their stock has improved, remained the same, or fallen over past several months.
An important note:This is not a re-ranking of the Rays top prospects but a review of the prospects in the order that they were ranked entering the season. Also, I will not be featuring players no longer within the Rays organization.
What Danny wrote entering the season:
The Venezuelan was elevated to the Holy City at the end of 2024, continuing the team’s aggressive push with his development. He traded his curveball for an easier to locate slider mid-season, but thus far lacks a plus third pitch. That’s ok when you have a 99 mph fastball with length in your delivery. Concerns with that delivery being repeatable seem overstated at his young age.
To say that Jose Urbina was dominant during the Summer of 2025 would be an understatement. At 19-years old, Urbina carved through Single-A lineups with ease; over the course of eight starts, Urbina compiled a 0.79 ERA | 2.76 FIP with opponents hitting just .185 against him over 45.2 IP. In early August, Urbina was perhaps dealing with fatigue having established a new career high in inning pitched or perhaps an undisclosed injury. After a rough outing early in the month, Urbina took a few weeks off and then only completed two innings in each of his follow up starts.
However, the Rays did show some confidence in the young prospect as he was rewarded with a promotion to High-A to make his final start of the season in early September.

Entering 2026, Urbina figures to be the ace of the High-A Charleston River Dogs and if he is able to generates similar results to his 2025 campaign, he could advance to the upper most levels of the Rays system quickly.
So is Urbina’s stock improving, the same, or falling?
