Bats rally from early deficit behind homer barrage to make it 4 in a row – Dodgers Digest

After yesterday’s emotional night in Clayton Kershaw‘s final start at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers seemed to have a bit of a letdown early today, or at least Tyler Glasnow did. After giving up four early runs, he did settle in for the team, and the offense fought back with seven unanswered runs. The pen then hung on from there to secure their fourth straight win, a 7-5 victory over the Giants.

As mentioned, things didn’t start well for Tyler Glasnow, as he had just one out in the 1st by the time he gave up two singles and issued a walk to load the bases. He then gave up Bryce Eldridge‘s first hit, a double on a poor route (would’ve been a tough catch) from Michael Conforto that cleared the bases to make it 3-0.

Glasnow followed by giving up a single and a walk to re-load the bases, then got a second out, but walked a run in to make it 4-0 before escaping.

Needless to say, things looked bleak at that point and Dave Roberts had relievers up in the pen already. However, Glasnow suddenly seemed to settle after that, as a one-out walk in the 2nd was erased by a double play, and one-out singles in both the 3rd and 4th were navigated around. Then he had his only clean frame in the 5th to somehow give the Dodgers some depth.

He prevented total disaster: 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 BB, 7 K, 101 Pitches.

Amusingly, he also was in line for the win.

——

This time relying on the offense to bail out the rotation, the lineup managed to do exactly that.

The game started with back-to-back strikeouts, but Freddie Freeman then got hit on the foot and Max Muncy followed with his 19th homer to halve the deficit at 4-2.

They’ve been doing something like this for a while, but I have no idea what it is, lol. https://t.co/0vALmaA9wC pic.twitter.com/PhntDYSW30

After a clean 2nd, they stranded the bases loaded with a pair down in the 3rd, but tied things up in the 4th. Michael Conforto’s 12th homer got them to within a run, and again a two-out rally got them going, as Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts drew walks, and Freddie Freeman singled to make it 4-4.

They then took the lead in the 5th behind Edman’s 13th dong of the year off the foul pole in left.

Insurance was added in the 6th, as Shohei smacked his 53rd homer of the year.

Mookie followed with a double, and later Teoscar Hernandez singled with two outs to make it 7-4.

The Dodgers didn’t add any more in the 7th or 8th, but they thankfully didn’t need to.

——

For the pen, things started with Anthony Banda, and he got a scoreless 6th by giving up just a two-out single. Unfortunately, next up was Kirby Yates in the 7th, and he continued to struggle. He started by giving up a homer to Rafael Devers to make it 7-5.

Mookie then made a stellar play to get him an out.

Yates then issued a walk, almost picked off the runner, made an error trying to pick him off again, then issued another walk before being removed.

That simply has to be it for Yates on the roster.

Anyway, Justin Wrobleski then entered and almost got a double play on a groundout, then ended the threat with a routine flyout.

Newcomer Will Klein was assigned the 8th, and he passed his test, striking out the side in impressive fashion.

Jack Dreyer then closed out the game in the 9th, getting a save in 1-2-3 fashion behind a strikeout and a pair of groundouts.
