Yesterday was a momentous day in Braves franchise history: #715 for Hammerin’ Hank.
Hammering Hank
Today is the 52nd anniversary of Hank Aaron breaking Babe Ruth’s career homerun record with his 715th round-tripper in 1974. Of course, he will retire with record 755 career homeruns. In my opinion, Hank still owns that record. Forever loved.
I will never forget being moved by all of the little details of the first City Connects that honored Aaron’s legacy – the embroidered “Keep Swinging” on the hat, the Art-Deco crown on the sleeve, the 715 scoreboard design on the inside collar.
A day after the 52nd anniversary of Hank breaking Babe Ruth’s record, we will flip the calendar from 1974 to the 1980’s. And remix it a little bit for the modern age, of course.
If you’re not at the City Connect launch party at the Battery today, here are even more looks at the new jerseys on sale today. The Braves will don the 2.0s this weekend vs. the Guardians and every Saturday home game this season.
The Braves have foregone detailed descriptions for the design choices on the website, but the elements of note are:
A prevailing theme in the story of the new uniforms is “access” – you could argue that TBS walked so that BravesVision could run, but Braves owe so much of the national and enduring fanbase over the years to the Superstation. We’re lucky to have a rich history to draw from, Braves Country.
Here’s a preview of some of the merch available at the Clubhouse store, more details here.
