After the first two games of the series, things resumed in Los Angeles with the Brewers fighting for their playoff lives in Game 3 of the NLDS against the Dodgers. Tyler Glasnow wasn’t as sharp as last time out or as the first two starters of the series, but he limited the damage during his time in the game, handing things over to the pen that went 3.1 scoreless innings after being extremely well rested. The pitching staff of the Brewers was game, but the Dodgers just kept coming up with hits when they needed it to get enough and secure a 3-1 victory.
Cool shot.

3-0.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy played some mind games with the team’s pitching plans, going with an Opener in lefty reliever Aaron Ashby to start before deploying rookie phenom Jacob Misiorowski in the bulk role instead of veteran Jose Quintana, which is who it was assumed would enter.
Adjust your records: It now seems likely that Jacob Misiorowski will handle bulk duties today and Jose Quintana, who yesterday thought he would be pitching today, seems more likely to pitch Game 4.

Serving a similar role in Game 1, Ashby issued a lead-off walk but got a scoreless frame. He also pitched in Game 2 in relief, getting a pair of outs but giving up a single to Shohei Ohtani that allowed an inherited runner to score.
So it would be the third time the top of the order faced Ashby already this series, which should be advantage to the Dodgers, and indeed it was. Shohei Ohtani started by getting behind 0-2, but he then took a ball, fouled off a tough pitch, and reached out to hook a breaking ball down the line for a lead-off triple. Mookie Betts immediately followed by lining a double into right-center for a 1-0 lead.

Ashby then battled back from 3-0 on Will Smith to get a strikeout, but then walked Freddie Freeman on four pitches to put a pair on. That was the end of his day after 16 pitches.
Murphy then turned to the planned bulk guy in Misiorowski out of the pen, and he got back-to-back strikeouts on just nine pitches to end that threat.

He obviously continued in the 2nd, getting a groundout and strikeout before Andy Pages pulled a ball down the line in left that was stopped by Durbin but that he beat out for an infield single. That gave Shohei a chance, but he grounded out sharply to end the inning.
The Miz then rolled in the 3rd, notching two strikeouts while retiring the side on just 12 pitches, then continued with two more punchies in the 4th while throwing just 11 more pitches. He got another strikeout in the 5th, and the clean inning took just 10 pitches as he made it 10 retired in a row.

For the Dodgers, it was the hero of Game 4 of the NLDS against the Phillies, who came through for the team despite making his first normal start in like three weeks. Now on (mostly) regular five days of rest, Glasnow was looking to continue the rotation’s stellar momentum in the series and postseason at large.
He started in the 1st by getting a lineout and strikeout on just six pitches, but then issued a walk to William Contreras and gave up a swinging bunt single to Christian Yelich on an 0-2 count to setup the makings of a frustrating inning. However, Glasnow got Andrew Vaughn to bounce out, and early trouble was averted on 19 pitches.

The 2nd was unfortunately an adventure. After getting a pop-out to start, Caleb Durbin pulled a ball down the line in left and Enrique Hernandez took a gamble on a catch attempt that didn’t work out and led to a triple. With the infield in, Jake Bauers came up and grounded a 2-2 pitch up the middle for a single to tie things up at 1-1.

Bauers then stole second on a jump that should’ve resulted in a caught stealing from Will Smith, then he advanced to third after a Glasnow error on a pick-off attempt. Thankfully, the infield in paid off this time when Max Muncy made a sliding play at third and made the play at home for a stellar second out.

Glasnow got a lineout after that to end the 2nd in what could’ve certainly been a lot worse. It did take another 19 pitches, however.
In the 3rd he seemed to find the range a bit, striking out the side on 17 pitches. Glasnow continued that trend in the 4th, striking out the first two batters to make it five in a row, but then issued a walk to Durbin. He then stole second, but this time Glasnow struck out Bauers to end the threat. It did take 19 more pitches, and the main concern at that point was his pitch count of 74.

Thankfully, he did come out in the 5th and get a quicker 1-2-3 frame on just 12 pitches, which allowed him to start the 6th as well. He got a groundout and then a strikeout, but issued a two-out walk to Vaughn on his 99th pitch to end his day.
A very Tyler Glasnow start, really: 5.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 8 K, 99 Pitches.
Tyler Glasnow has one of the worst starts in the postseason for the Dodgers, giving up … uh, one run on three hits and three walks while striking out eight over 5.2 innings, lol. pic.twitter.com/sy41Ci7CLF

Dave Roberts turned to Alex Vesia out of the pen, and he kept that run number at one for Glasnow by ending the inning with a strikeout on just three pitches.

Back to the Dodgers offense, The Miz started the 6th by retiring his 11th in a row, but then showed signs of faltering. Will Smith kicked off a rally with a single, then Freddie Freeman got behind 1-2 but worked three balls in a row to draw a walk and put a pair on. That set the table for Tommy Edman, who hit a first pitch slider back up the middle for a single to make it 2-1.

Dills got a great read at second to score on that play, and Freddie went first to third to keep the pressure on.
Just like that, The Miz was out of the game for Abner Uribe, who got Teoscar Hernandez to chase a 3-2 pitch out of the zone for a huge strikeout. But he then tried to pick Tommy at first and threw it away for an error to score Freddie and make it 3-1.

Uribe got out of the 6th after that, then got the first two of the 7th before handing things over to Jared Koenig for the final four outs, over which he allowed just a walk.

Back to the Dodgers pen, Vesia was still in the game to start the 7th, and he gave up a lead-off double to Durbin to start. He then threw a dickshot to Bauers, but he got lucky and he flew out on it. Blake Treinen entered next and the Brewers hit Isaac Collins for Joey Ortiz, but Treinen got him to pop out. Jackson Chourio was next, and he unfortunately had to exit the game after aggravating his hammy injury.

Brutal injury that you hate to see for a young rising star.
In a tough situation, Glen Perkins then battled Treinen, but eventually struck out to end that threat.
The 8th was then given to Anthony Banda, who is now sitting 97-98 MPH and went 1-2-3.
Roki Sasaki was back and next in the 9th, and he also went 1-2-3, but part of that was due to Mookie.

Roki’s command a bit shaky again, but man, the moment he landed that split for a strike, that at-bat was over, lmao.

The NLCS is now 3-0 with the Dodgers in front. I’m … please, man.
The series will resume tomorrow on TBS, truTV, and HBO Max at a better local start time of 2:38 PM HT/5:38 PM PT/8:38 PM ET. The pitching matchup will be Shohei Ohtani on a whopping 12 days of rest, and he’ll likely face Jose Quintana in some capacity, even if it’s not a standard start.
