After a 2-10 start to the season, the White Sox are calling for some reinforcements. It has been reported that they are promoting INF Chase Meidroth from Triple-A Charlotte. A corresponding move has not been announced yet. The call-up comes with 172 days left in the season, which is important because after today, he will not have been up long enough for this season to count towards his service time, giving the White Sox an extra year of control.
Chase Meidroth, acquired in the Garrett Crochet trade in December of last year, was what looked at as the third piece of the trade behind prospects Kyle Teel and Braden Montgomery. Meidroth was sent down to Triple-A to start the season after having a slow Spring Training with only a .154/.313/.179 slash line; however, he has turned it around in Charlotte with a hot start. In 9 games, he is hitting .267/.450/.600 with 3 HR.
Last season in Triple-A Worcester (Red Sox), Meidroth slashed .293/.437/.401 with 7 HR in 122 games. Here is a look at some of the Statcast data from that season:
Defensively, Meidroth offers versatility, having played shortstop, second base, and third. While he spent most of his time last season at short, he also logged 137 error-free innings at second base, making him a viable option there for the White Sox this season. This season, however, he has split time at shortstop with Colson Montgomery down in Charlotte, making it possible for him to take over for the currently struggling shortstop Jacob Amaya.
