Suffice to say, the relationship between Jerry Lorenzo and adidas, joined under their shared Fear of God Athletics label, has been red meat for those with an eye on sneaker-industry “palace intrigue.” After a prolonged start-up period in which it took months for the first design under the label to come to light, consistent rumors have circulated in the time since, leaving the future of the partnership a constant mystery.
With arguably the most high-profile collaboration under Lorenzo’s tutelage just coming off the board via a duo of Derrick Rose-assisted designs, it appears that we’re getting a similar double shot: confirmation of the adidas relationship’s continuation into at least 2026, and seeds of what designs may come of that. Unveiled via shots taken at an event celebrating the Rose capsule and via Lorenzo himself is the adidas Fear of God Athletics Basketball 3, the evolution of the imprint’s core performance line under the Three Stripes.
In much the same way that the II built on the platform of the I, the core design language that defined the previous two iterations remains in this next chapter. A bulky sole unit sits below the wavy contours in the upper, notably switching up its interpretation of adi’s branding with wavy stripes defining either side.
In a pair worn by the founder in Chicago, the new compositional notes in the upper shine through, as mesh fabrics pop in a grey colorway, additionally revealing extended translucent outsole traction that exposes molded white midsoles one layer beneath. A padded trapezoid tongue, lace-lock options a la the lifestyle extension of the adidas x FOG catalog, and plush counters on the heel and forefoot also stand as noteworthy aspects of the Fear of God Athletics III.
Though the adidas Fear of God Athletics Basketball 3 currently does not have a concrete release date attached, we can confirm that the adidas Fear of God Athletics Basketball 3 will see a public release, expected to mark the final chapter in the lineage to date.
