Jerry Lorenzo once suggested that Fear of God x adidas had the potential to rival Jordan Brand. In hindsight, though, the partnership stands as one of the sneaker industry’s biggest “what could have been” stories.
Expectations were sky-high when the deal was announced in 2020, yet the collaboration never came close to matching the cultural resonance Fear of God achieved with Nike in the late 2010s. Production hurdles, shifting adidas leadership, and a range of behind-the-scenes complications all played their part, though the full story may never be told. Lorenzo confirmed the partnership’s end last year and has since been spotted back in Nike product, namely the Jacquemus Nike Moon Shoe. But one final chapter remains. The adidas Fear of God Athletics Basketball 3 will still see a public release, slated for Spring/Summer 2026 in multiple colorways.
Subjective as it may be, some might argue the Basketball 3 is the line’s most compelling entry. A suede and knit fabric upper sits atop a sculpted midsole with wavy, multi-directional traction, executing Fear of God’s design language through a more overt performance lens (though we can’t speak to its performance). It’s hard not to wonder how the narrative might have shifted had a model like this led the charge from day one.
