The 2025 NBA Draft is right around the corner, and all things point to the Dallas Mavericks getting a generational talent.
The prospect in question is none other than Duke Blue Devils’ Cooper Flagg, who is viewed as the consensus No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
It’s all but decided that Flagg will be drafted by the Dallas Mavericks, who hold the top pick in this year’s draft.
While Flagg is expected to be a starting caliber player right off the bat, that doesn’t mean the former Duke star is allowing his early success to get to his head.
Jon Scheyer reveals Cooper Flagg’s plans after getting drafted to Dallas Mavericks
The Mavs are coming off arguably one of the worst seasons in franchise history. From trading Luka Doncic to facing consistent injury troubles, the Mavs fanbase witnessed it all.
However, with the prospect of Flagg’s arrival, fans are expecting things to get better for the organization. As for Flagg, he may be the outright best player in this year’s draft, but he is humble.
Current head coach of Duke, Jon Scheyer, confirmed that in an interview with ESPN. He also labeled the Mavs as a ‘dream spot’ for the 18-year-old.
“He’s not going to go into Dallas thinking he’s got all the answers. He’s going to learn from Kyrie, he’s going to learn from [Davis],” Scheyer said.
“He’s going to learn from Dereck Lively and Jason Kidd and his staff. He’s coming in to learn, and I think that’s a special part about him,” the Duke coach added.
The hunger to get better and learn from already established NBA stars is something that could benefit Flagg in the long run.
After all, he will be tasked with the job of potentially leading the Mavericks to another NBA title sooner rather than later.
Jon Scheyer makes ‘lucky’ admission about Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks are less than 50 years old, but they have been one of the most consistent teams in the 21st Century.
A key reason behind that was having a generational superstar in Dirk Nowitzki, who spent his entire career with the franchise. Doncic was expected to do the same, claiming he wanted to retire in Dallas, only to be traded to the LA Lakers,
With Flagg soon getting drafted by the Mavericks, Scheyer made a ‘lucky’ admission about the organization.
“Dallas has been lucky for many years,” Scheyer said. “They’ve been able to watch Dirk, Luka — so many winning teams. Now, you’ve got a guy in Cooper, who I think will carry that tradition forward,” Scheyer stated.
Even though the Mavs are getting Flagg, the top brass needs to be careful with how they treat the future NBA star. After all, the current ownership has already burned bridges with Nowitzki and Doncic.
So far, the Mavericks have ensured not to send any wrong message to Flagg, and the fanbase will be hoping they treat Flagg with respect in the future, too.
