The Atlanta Hawks want to see more of how Trae Young develops chemistry with Jalen Johnson before making any big decisions about Young’s future, sources told Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Young is currently unlikely to sign an extension with the Hawks this summer, though both sides are open to signing a new contract once Young hits free agency.
The guard is currently eligible for a four-year, $229 million extension through next June 30.
Discussions over a new deal could come at a “slow” pace as both sides re-evaluate their options.
Johnson appeared in just 36 games last season after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery.
