The Golden State Warriors probably have the least complete roster of all 30 teams heading into the 2025-26 NBA season.
The Warriors’ best players (Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green) are all under contract, but they currently do not have much help.
The biggest reason for their lackluster offseason is their stalemate in contract negotiations with Jonathan Kuminga’s representatives.
Kuminga believes he is worth more than the two-year, $45 million deal offered to him, and he’s leaning towards wanting a fresh start on another franchise.
While the power forward’s future remains unsolved, Golden State have been unable to build the remainder of their roster for the upcoming season.
NBA reporter Anthony Slater has now revealed what the Warriors’ star players feel about the ongoing contract negotiations.
Golden State Warriors players not ‘freaking out’ about Jonathan Kuminga
The Warriors players would be excused for feeling frustrated with the lack of offseason moves, but that is apparently not the case.
Slater explained on ESPN that the senior stars are fully aware of the situation after holding talks with general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.
“I think the public is looking at the Warriors, going, ‘Hey, you still have nine players on the roster, so the veterans must be freaking out.’ They’re not,” he said.
“They’ve had communication with Mike Dunleavy. They know what the roster is going to look like. They know the dominoes that are going to fall. They’re not in the dark about that.”
However, Slater added that the Warriors might be concerned about Kuminga’s commitment if he only returns on a one-year, qualifying offer.
“But I think they’re wondering about Jonathan Kuminga’s buy-in if he comes back on the qualifying offer,” he continued.
“Their curiosity is: Can this thing get done, where Jonathan Kuminga can come back and be part of this team without an egotist trying to push forward?”
Golden State Warriors need more than Jonathan Kuminga
The Warriors have nine players on their roster with just three weeks until their first preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

If they can agree on a new contract with Kuminga, they will at least have strength in depth at the wing and forward positions.
However, even if the 15-point-per-game scorer returns, the Warriors will lack guard and center options off the bench.
Once Kuminga’s future is resolved, Dunleavy will surely look to add some veterans to the roster, such as Al Horford and Gary Payton II.
