Ja Morant expressed frustration and a possible disagreement with the coaching staff of the Memphis Grizzlies following their 117-112 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Morant had just eight points on 3-for-14 shooting while also recording seven assists. Morant attempted just one shot in the restricted area.
“Go ask the coaching staff,” Morant said when asked what wrong for him in the game.
“Go ask him,” said Morant when asked if there was anything he could have done differently.
Morant was presumably referring to head coach Tuomas Iisalo.
Morant was then asked if he had his usual energy during the game. Morant has not played more than 32 minutes in any game this season.
“According to them, probably don’t play me, honestly,” Morant said, seemingly referring to the Grizzlies’ coaches. “That’s basically what the message was after.”
The Grizzlies fired Taylor Jenkins near the end of the 2024-25 season and elevated Iisalo in a move perceived as one to reset the structure of the team around Morant.
