Jimmy Butler says there is personal reason he was ‘miserable’ with Miami Heat, now ‘extremely’ happy with Warriors

The Miami Heat traded six-time All-Star forward Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson and a protected first-round pick last season.

The Jimmy Butler trade saga overshadowed the Miami Heat’s 2024-25 season and it was only a matter of time until he was going to be traded.

The Golden State Warriors stepped up to the plate and acquired Butler in an attempt to make a push for the NBA title.

Butler’s tenure with the Warriors got off to an excellent start and he thrived with his new team. The Warriors looked poised for a deep playoff run, but then Stephen Curry got hurt which ended their chances.

However, going into this season Butler and the Warriors have a great shot to do something special.

Jimmy Butler is happy that his kids are closer to him now, ‘you think it’s just basketball, but it’s not’

Months after the trade Butler has finally opened up about how he felt about his situation in Miami.

Butler revealed that not being close to his kids made him miserable since they are in California.

So Butler playing for the Warriors now, means he’s closer to his kids, which makes him happy.

“The reason I’m extremely happy is because my kids are closer to me now. My kids are in California, so going that long and I wasn’t seeing my kids, I was miserable.

“And like, I tell everybody, that’s the part of the game that the outside eye doesn’t see.

“You think it’s just basketball, but it’s not.

“I got an incredible group of guys [here]. I’m happy because I know we can win a championship, but I’m happy because I get my kids around too.”

Jimmy Butler will try to win his first NBA Championship with the Golden State Warriors

Butler is confident that the Warriors can win a championship with this team.

They weren’t far last season and if Curry hadn’t gotten hurt, the Warriors looked destined for a trip to the Western Conference Finals.

Butler had a full offseason with the Warriors, which will help his on-court chemistry with the other players and the Warriors made some nice late offseason additions.

Golden State brought in DeAnthony Melton, Al Horford, Seth Curry and signed a new deal with Jonathan Kuminga.

If the Warriors remain healthy, they should be a threat in the West this season.
