Multiple high-profile recruits to visit this month

There will be a handful of high-profile high school recruits coming through Storrs to visit with Dan Hurley and the UConn men’s basketball program this month.

In recruiting high school players now, UConn’s focus is on quality, not quantity. The Huskies are prioritizing players in the 2026 class who can make an impact right away, like five-star point guard Dylan Mingo, who began his official visit Friday.

A top 10 player nationally, Mingo fits the mold of Hurley’s ideal point guard with his 6-foot-5 frame and an ability to defend multiple positions while getting involved on the glass. A product of Glen Head, N.Y., Mingo attends Long Island Lutheran, where he was teammates with current Huskies freshman Jacob Ross and has been viewed as a prospect with plenty of untapped potential. He is ranked No. 6 in the nation and No. 2 at his position by 247Sports.com, and has already paid visits to Washington and Miami in August.

Mingo told On3 earlier in the recruiting process that he plans on taking five to eight visits, and would ideally commit before the high school season begins. He holds offers from programs like North Carolina, Alabama, Oklahoma, Virginia, Baylor, NC State, and others.

Top-30 recruit Cole Cloer, a 6-7 wing touted for his shooting and athleticism, will reportedly visit on Sept. 12. A Hillsborough, N.C., native attending IMG Academy in Florida, Cloer is ranked No. 27 in his class and No. 13 at the small forward position by 247Sports. Cloer has already visited NC State and will reportedly be in Gainesville this weekend visiting with the defending national champion Florida Gators, with upcoming trips set for Kentucky, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Alabama.

Four-star guard Junior County, 6-4 and ranked No. 29 in his class by 247Sports and No. 43 by ESPN, will reportedly visit UConn the weekend of Sept. 26. The Huskies were included in his final five schools, along with Indiana, Arizona, Maryland and Purdue.

Hurley and associate head coach Kimani Young both paid a visit to Notre Dame-West Haven to see the top-ranked player in Connecticut, Abdou Toure, this week after he made an official visit to Providence. An athletic wing ranked in the top 40 nationally, Toure included the Huskies in his list of seven schools with the Friars as well as Arkansas, Maryland, Florida State, Oregon and Louisville.

UConn has also offered 6-6 wing Qayden Samuels, from Maryland and ranked No. 18 in the class by 247Sports, and Colben Landrew, another 6-6 wing from Georgia.

Continuing to recruit overseas, UConn hosted top international center Sayon Keita, a 7-footer in the Class of 2027 who plays for Barcelona in Spain, in early August. Keita could potentially reclassify to 2026.
