For years, the NBA GOAT debate has come down to two legends – Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
While most fans still believe that Michael Jordan is the GOAT, LeBron James has somewhat closed down the gap in recent years.
Despite LeBron breaking several records, the biggest thing that’s been held against his GOAT case is an NBA Finals record of 4-6.
After all, MJ had a perfect 6-0 finals record with the Chicago Bulls.
John Stockton explains what he can ‘brag’ about Michael Jordan
Basketball Hall of Famer John Stockton recently reignited the GOAT debate with a jab at the Los Angeles Lakers.
Stockton explained what he can ‘brag’ about Jordan as compared to the King.
“I like to brag on Michael Jordan here a little bit, and I think we were similar ilk with the Jazz is, I like where guys just tighten up their belt and say, ‘You know, what? Let’s go to work.’
“‘We just got to get better; we got to play harder; we gotta play smarter, instead of just huh, where’s the grass greener?’” Stockton said (h/t Apex Jones).
Stockton’s statement was a direct shot at James, who has played for three different NBA franchises during his career, albeit winning a ring with each organization.

John Stockton’s ‘helicopter to the top’ analogy for LeBron James
For context, Stockton spent all 19 years of his NBA career with the Utah Jazz. Sure, he failed to win even a single NBA Championship, but Stockton seemingly holds loyalty over joining other teams to chase rings.
Adding more to his point, Stockton stated: “I’m gonna go there and win a championship. I think it devalues that.
“You’re not climbing the mountain; you’re taking a helicopter to the top.”
James famously joined the Miami Heat in 2010 after a seven-year stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The decision is still treated with animosity.
Mostly because LBJ formed a superteam with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on the Heat. The move helped James in winning his first two NBA titles, but in exchange, it has tarnished his legacy, at least in the eyes of most old heads.
