The debut of A’ja Wilson’s first ever Nike Basketball sneaker went down exactly as we all expected, with the “Pink Aura” Nike A’One selling out in minutes upon dropping earlier this month. Thankfully, those who missed out needn’t wait much longer for a chance to cop the highly-anticipated signature model. The Nike A’One is continuing its rollout with two colorways on May 15th; the “OG Pearl” and “Indigo Girl.” Both will be available in adult unisex + GS sizes via nike.com and retailers like DICK’S and Foot Locker. While you wouldn’t know it without context, both colorways come packed with meaning. The “OG Pearl” Nike A’One is inspired by a necklace given to A’ja by her grandma, a reference that also plays into the model’s protective layering scheme. Arctic grey tones appear around a metallic silver Swoosh, with the sneaker gradually getting lighter as you approach the midsole/tongue.
Moving onto the “Indigo Girl” A’One, the colorway is inspired by A’ja’s childhood nickname and bright-blue energy. Moreover, in 2021, A’ja published a video called The Indigo Child on The Players’ Tribune describing the racism she experienced as a child (and how it inspired her to be a role model for Black girls). Dark “Blue Fury” treatments account for most of the base, while upper portions and outsole appear in lighter “Photo Blue.”
