Nike Basketball is digging into its 2000s bag with a number of nostalgia-inducing retros this year, and we’re totally here for it. Not only is Jason Williams’ Nike Hyperflight PE coming back seemingly out of nowhere, the model will also be made available in a handful of other established, original looks.
Here we have a simple all-black patent leather arrangement featuring white Swooshes, a solid option for collectors who want a little stealth in their step. The Hyperflight last dropped in 2013 but has been talked about recently thanks to the GT Future, which clearly borrows some of its design language from the Y2K silo. Eric Avar designed the Hyperflight to be an ultra-light guard shoe, taking inspiration from track spikes of all things. While it was extremely lightweight and also featured solid traction, durability was an issue. That shouldn’t matter much now that it’s no longer being touted for performance.
The Hyperflight is one of a few 2000s Nike Basketball models primed to return this year, joined by retros of the Nike Kobe 1 as well as the Nike Air Huarache 2K4. This sneaker blogger hopes the OG Hyperdunk is next.
