We’ll continue beating the drum until it proves untrue; the Nike x Kobe Protro enterprise is in its most prolific era to date. Even as the work on the Air Force 1 kicks into high gear and we’re beginning to see earnest collaborations enter the legacy, the late legend’s roster of core basketball models remains the beating heart of the line. The Nike Kobe 9 has been the featured silhouette throughout 2025, fully back in the fold after the opening “Halo” salvo.

While novel additions like the “Team Bank” series add new life to the model, its most high-profile moments still center around bring-backs of its original looks. Which brings us to the shoe at hand, the Nike Kobe 9 Elite Low “Moonwalker.” The first of this specific cut to touch down in its original run, it narratively connected to the overarching theme of “visionaries” that lighted multiple colorways, including the “Beethoven” Kobe 9 still expected for the Holiday season.

Indeed, it’s the King of Pop in the spotlight here, inspiring the astral print underfoot. Indeed, that section is really the only spot where this Protro version changes aesthetically, shifting from neutral outsole coloring to an icier variant. The purple and black layout up top and Flyknit material remains in place, while the typical Protro retooling brings in a drop-in React midsole.

As alluded to in our title, the Nike Kobe 9 Elite Low Protro “Moonwalker” drops on September 10th, retailing for $210.
