Preview P? Protro P? Regardless of what moniker best fits in your mind, the impending retro of the Nike PG 1 continues to be one of the more intriguing for the long-time hoopers. PG13’s signature line consistently ranked among the best-regarded of Nike Basketball’s efforts during its concurrent run, but as the partnership marched into its later stages, tacit signs that new models were on the way started to emerge: the man himself stopped wearing the product, and the gap following the PG 6 only drew on.
In a somewhat unprecedented turn, some three years after the line drew to a close, we’re turning back to its beginning. Overseas images of new pairs beginning trickling out in November, running back a variety of original colorways. Videos of George confirming this news began circulating earlier this year, and now the effort grows deeper as the Nike PG 1 “Ferocity” adds the upcoming slate. Decked out in a simple interpretation of Pacers away colors, the brighter notes on this shoe delivered a double meaning that captured some of the then-understated star’s hobbies, namely his love for fishing.
In that same interview, Paul George specifically noted that the PG 1 would be available mid-January in China; with little reporting or images stateside, it’s a distinct possibility that the return of his first signature will be restricted to Asia. Beyond the aforementioned intrigue of restarting a signature line just under a decade after its introduction, region-locking it would be a strategy we’ve never come across. We’ll keep you in the loop either way. In the meantime, check out some in-hand shots of the Nike PG 1 “Ferocity” retro below.
