You asked and Nike delivered… or at least it’s rumored to. Nike’s decision to end Paul George’s signature shoe line after six models (discounting the PG 2.5) was a move that left many hoopers puzzled. The All-Star forward’s sneakers were extraordinarily well received, combining solid performance with flashy, memorable colorways and affordable price points. Now nearly a decade removed from the line’s inception, rumors have begun swirling that the Nike PG 1 from 2017 is returning for a retro run.
Ground zero for this speculation comes from an image posted by sneaker leaker @prm.cotd, largely considered reliable source for upcoming Nike Basketball product. The account posted a picture of a Nike PG 1 “Flip The Switch” retro, along with text claiming it is in fact a new edition set to release in 2026. Further, shots of a rerun for the “White Ice” and “Black/Gum” followed shortly afterwards.
The original release of the silhouette being less than a decade in the rearview places the PG 1 in interesting territory were it to actually return, perhaps too new for a full “Protro” style revamp yet bearing structural aspects that have largely been abandoned in the time since its release (Phylon cushioning, in particular, is a tech left behind in recent Nike Basketball products). Nonetheless, George’s line, despite some of the later complications that came as it crept towards half a dozen editions, remains one of the more well regarded of modern Swoosh hoops innovations, lauded for a combination of containment and sticky cross-hatch traction.
No concrete release info for the Nike PG 1 in any of the three colorways discussed here has surfaced yet, nor has Nike confirmed that a retro run is currently in the works. We’ll keep our coverage up to date with any and all new information as it comes in. For now, enjoy detailed images of all these colorways below.
