The Indiana Pacers are about to meet a familiar foe to commence the 2025 NBA Playoffs.
For the second consecutive year, the Indiana Pacers will face the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the postseason.
The Pacers, occupying the No. 4 spot of the Eastern Conference, are set for a seven-game series against the fifth-seeded Milwaukee team. They will hold the home court advantage this time around.
Their matchup became official after the Bucks picked up a 125-119 win against the Detroit Pistons on April 11.
Rick Carlisle offers thoughts on looming Playoff rematch with Bucks
The Pacers and the Bucks shared an intense affair on the court in recent seasons. The spicy narratives between the two began during the 2023-24 In-Season Tournament Semifinals.
Hitting the Pacers’ three-point dagger to send themselves in the tourney Finals, Tyrese Haliburton trolled Damian Lillard by mimicking his “Dame Time” celly which the Bucks star didn’t appreciate.
Days after this, Giannis Antetokounmpo retaliated to lead the Bucks for a payback win, dropping a 64-point masterpiece in their 140-126 victory. The aftermath of the heated ball game saw the Greek superstar infamously charge into the Indiana locker room seeking the game ball.
Both sides ultimately faced off in the opening round of the 2024 Playoffs. The series reached six grueling games as the Pacers advanced while the Bucks crumbled and sorely missed the presence of Antetokounmpo due to a calf injury.
As they are about to face the Bucks for a playoff rematch, head coach Rick Carlisle is mindful enough of the challenge that awaits him and the Pacers.
“They’re great. They’ve got one, two of the best players in the world,” Carlisle said of the Bucks after the Pacers’ 129-115 dub over the Orlando Magic on April 11.
“We’re all too familiar with how lethal they are as a team. They’ve gotten better this year. They’ve got more depth, they’ve got more shooting.
“More size, better defense. Many challenges.”
Exciting seven-game series from Pacers, Bucks awaits NBA fans
The Pacers saw a relatively tough challenge from the Bucks in this 2024-25 campaign. They managed to win just one of their four-game regular season series, and this came in which Haliburton drained a game-winning four-point play inspired by Indiana legend Reggie Miller.
Of the two great players Carlisle referenced, it is unclear if Damian Lillard will be cleared to play.
Although there has been a recent positive update, it remains yet to be seen if Lillard will suit up in this year’s Playoffs after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (blood clots).
Carlisle and the Pacers are still rightly wary about the fight that the Bucks will impose. Under Antetokounmpo’s stellar lead, Milwaukee is set to enter the postseason on high momentum as they are savoring the return of Bobby Portis Jr. and the big-time late takeover of Kevin Porter Jr, that has helped them to seven wins in a row.
The full schedule of the NBA Playoffs is yet to be revealed, but we can only be thrilled about the looming renewed battle between Indiana and Milwaukee, as this stands as one of the most highly anticipated matchups for this year.
