Legendary former San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich was always reluctant to step into the spotlight. Popovich preferred that the attention go to his players on the floor. Fittingly, when the Spurs wanted to honor Popovich, they did so quietly and without fanfare.
Alongside the banners for their retired players, San Antonio hung a banner to honor Popovich’s contributions to the franchise. The banner simply reads “Pop 1,390” to recognize Popovich’s NBA-record regular-season win total. There are also five stars at the top of the banner which represent the five NBA titles the Spurs won under Popovich’s leadership.
