One Golden State Warriors star scored just three points for the team, but head coach Steve Kerr predicted the play nearly to perfection.
Making shots from deep is the Golden State Warriors‘ bread and butter as the team is led by arguably the greatest shooter of all time, Stephen Curry.
Over the course of his career, many players have benefitted from playing alongside Steph. Evidently, shooting well from beyond the three-point line has been injected into the DNA of long-serving GSW players.
Kevon Looney, who is usually restricted to getting rebounds in the paint, has never been a volume three-point shooter. However, Looney is working on that aspect of his game, according to head coach Steve Kerr.
Steve Kerr on Kevon Looney’s sole three-pointer vs Memphis Grizzlies
The Warriors continued their late-season push following an instrumental 134-125 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.
Curry led the headlines with a 52-point scoring outburst against the Grizzlies, while Draymond Green notched a 13-point triple-double for the Dubs.
However, one play from Looney during the third quarter caught the eyes of many fans, especially since coach Kerr predicted it during the pre-game conference.
“He has worked at that thing [three-point shooting] for months and maybe that becomes a part of his game. Sometimes it takes these things a while to factor in, but there might be a shot tonight.
“Where he’s got a corner three with the shot clock [going down]. It helps to see a ball go in. So, some of it is a reward, some of it is a little bit of method to the manners.”
Looney showed the results of his behind-the-scenes training when he drained a three-pointer as there were just 1.1 seconds on the shot clock during an inbounds play.

Looney’s numbers from the three-point land
Since getting drafted as the 30th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, Looney has spent his entire career with the Dubs.
Throughout his career, Looney has never actively participated in shooting the ball from deep. Despite that, Looney has shot 40% from beyond the arc over a span of 10 years.
But the key thing to note about it is the fact that Looney has drained just 12 three-pointers in that stretch. Could fans see him utilize this weapon more? Only time will tell.
