UNCASVILLE – The UConn men’s basketball team will be without two likely starters for its first exhibition game against Boston College at Mohegan Sun Arena on Monday night.
The program announced both point guard Silas Demary Jr. and center Tarris Reed Jr. will be unavailable due to injuries suffered in practice.
Demary, dealing with a tweaked calf, went through warmups ahead of the exhibition and is considered day-to-day. Reed stood off to the side with a hamstring injury and will continue to be evaluated over the coming weeks.
Both players were part of the reason UConn was ranked No. 4 in the preseason AP poll on Monday. The Huskies will host Michigan State in their second exhibition at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford on Oct. 28, about a week before their season-opener at Gampel Pavilion against New Haven on Nov. 3.
The absence of Demary and Reed on Monday will likely lead to Dayton transfer Malachi Smith being featured at the point guard spot and potentially some extra minutes for 7-foot freshman Eric Reibe at center while the Huskies test their depth.
