UConn forward Isaiah Abraham enters transfer portal

The first bit of transfer portal news has come out of Storrs.

Freshman forward Isaiah Abraham, a former top-65 recruit, announced his decision to enter the portal on Thursday, according to On3Sports.

Abraham played in nine games this season for the UConn men’s basketball team, averaging 1.6 points in just 3.7 minutes per game. The Gainesville, Virginia, native made five of his 11 shot attempts this season (46.5% from the field), including a 3-for-7 mark from beyond the arc. His best game came in a 54-point victory over Maryland Eastern Shore, when he played 10 minutes and scored six points on 2-for-4 shooting, while being whistled for four fouls.

It was tough for Abraham to find playing time as a freshman at UConn, as he was stuck behind a logjam at his position that included Alex Karaban, Jaylin Stewart and Jayden Ross. He didn’t see any game action through the middle portion of the season and played a total of seven minutes in March, never getting the opportunity he might find elsewhere.

More decisions are expected to be made in the coming weeks as UConn begins construction of its 2025-26 roster.

“You value all of the players and want them all to return, but you know that that’s not reality,” coach Dan Hurley said Wednesday.

The Huskies are set to bring in the nation’s third-ranked recruiting class in guards Braylon Mullins, Darius Adams and Jacob Furphy, in addition to center Eric Reibe. “You want to return the people that you really need to stay, and then supplement in the portal. But we’ve got to put together a championship team this year,” Hurley said.
