UConn men’s basketball standouts Alex Karaban and Solo Ball have been named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 Watch List.
The list was compiled by a panel of national college basketball experts to identify frontrunners for the Wooden Award’s All-America Team and Most Outstanding Player awards.
Karaban ranks second in scoring on UConn with 18.3 points per game and is averaging 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per. He’s shooting a scalding-hot 61.9 percent thus far from the field and 63.2 percent from 3-point range.
The UConn captain ranks among the program’s all-time leaders in free throw percentage and 3-point field goals and has ascended to 23rd on the all-time scoring list with 1,426 career points. Karaban is a four-year starter who has compiled a 96-22 record (.814) and two national titles in his decorated UConn career.
Ball ranks third on the team in scoring this season with 15.8 points and has added 4.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.8 ‘stocks’ per game. He’s coming off a breakout sophomore year when he averaged 14.4 points per game and shot 41.4 percent from 3-point range.
