Ammo Williams Decisions A Tough Patrice Volny

Promising middleweight Austin “Ammo” Williams took on fellow promising middleweight Patrice Volny   in the main event of a Matchroom Card. The scheduled 12 rounder was broadcast live via the DAZN streaming service. The 17-1 Williams had an impressive opening round, one where he showed the 19-1 Volny he was not to be intimidated. He went on to have an effective second, but Volmy was unfazed. Both men fought to control the tempo of the bout in the third.

William’s began to fire off power shots in the fourth. Volmy, however, applied pressure behind a solid jab. He was taking some heavy shots from Williams, though. The fifth round was indicative of just how close the fight was. Williams landed some fast, snappy shots, but he couldn’t seem to take control over the tall, patient Volmy. The sixth was an exciting chapter. Each man was hit hard by the other. There were no knockdowns, but each fighter got a taste of his opponent’s power.

The seventh saw Volny continue to fight behind his effective high guard. Williams was certainly in the fight, but he couldn’t seem to make a lasting impact on his rugged opponent. The eighth round showcased William’s determination, as he fought sharply, possibly taking the round. Williams continued to fight intelligently in the ninth, hitting, moving, and keeping Volny from scoring points. Each fighter remained zeroed in during the ninth. Volny continued to effectively apply pressure, while Williams was able to land some solid shots.

Volmy looked like he might be fading in the tenth. He continually pressed the action, but it was Williams who kept throwing the punches. Williams continued to employ an impressive work ethic in the eleventh. With that being said, Volmy rocked Volmy near round’s end. The twelfth and final round was exciting, but Williams once again appeared to be the more active fighter. Even though it had been a close fight, the judges ended up awarding Williams a wide unanimous decision victory.

“I had to beat him strategically,” Williams said afterward, admitting that he had been engaged with a smart and skilled pro. Williams went on to credit his coach. “He is the reason we won this fight,” he said. “Thank you, Coach Cunningham.” As for the single defeat on his record, Williams made it clear he’s not going to let it set him back. “I don’t know anybody here whose been undefeated in life,” he claimed.
